As a devoted pet lover, I am sure that you know it is essential to groom your dog regularly and properly. You are also aware that grooming goes far beyond just an occasional bath and brushing.
We all know that we could put our dog in the car and head off for the nearest professional groomer and let them do it for us. But there is an alternative. You can start taking care of all your dog’s grooming requirements in the privacy of your own home. There are various reasons for doing this. Not only will it save you money, you can do it at home at your convenience and probably the most important aspect of all, is that it won’t be done by strangers, you and your dog will be far less stressed and you will be able to share a special bond with your pet.
In the beginning you might feel overwhelmed at the thought but here are some ideas which should help:
Buy a good e-book, book, CD or DVD on dog grooming courses to guide you in the right direction, learn useful tips and make you feel more confident.
Make sure you have all the necessary equipment. Although a good brush is essentiail, you will also need a good quality dog shampoo and conditioner, dog clippers and clean towels.
Relax and be patient. Remember that if the dog feels that we are nervous or impatient, it will become agitated too. Many dogs don’t like baths in the beginning but will soon begin to enjoy them and even look forward to them in the future.
Groom regularly and get rid of that ‘doggy smell’. When you are in control of the grooming process, you will be able to brush, bathe and clean your dog at the first sign of odour. Not only will that make for a much happier and healthier pet, but it will give you great pride in knowing that you are responsible for having such a well groomed dog.
